Excuse me, who said those harsher campaigns succeed? I seem to recall a communications study some years back that concluded scare-campaigns didn't do jack shit. All they serve to do is freak all the rest of us the hell out :-/
I mean honestly there are few things that can ruin a good evening like a commercial where a kid watcher her mother get crushed by a huge truck. I don't even have a bloody car!
I can't quote any studies that say harsher campaigns do succeed because I haven't looked them up, but after watching all of the above commercials and judging my reaction, I would think these commercials would have a similar effect on most people. I think most of us in America ignore anything that's not IN YOUR FACE or over-dramatized! Television shows reflect this: 24, Prison Break, American Idol, Lost, etc... If we don't tailor our commercials the same way, no attention is paid to them, and people remain ignorant to the way things work in real life.
