WormholeFTP v1.1.3

Posted on: Mon Jun 02, 2008 02:53 PM

Just a quick update to WormholeFTP. When an upload is completed, you'll hear a Windows system sound and the main window will flash. I found myself forgetting about uploads after starting one and turning away to do something else so I decided that some simple feedback would greatly enhance usability.

Enjoy!

WormholeFTP v1.1.2 (I just can't stop!)

Posted on: Fri May 23, 2008 03:48 AM

Oh man, I'm on a roll. WormholeFTP v1.1.2 was just rolled out not more than 5 minutes ago. You should be prompted to download it the next time you start up the application.

Version 1.1.2's progress bar now displays the total progress as a percentage of [Total Data Uploaded / Total Data to BE Uploaded] as opposed to [Number of Files Uploaded / Number of Files to Upload]. Now you know the upload is working because you can see its progress in real time! Fancy, eh? As always, the forums are available for bug reports and feature requests.

That'll probably be all the updates to the application for the next week or two, as I'll be busy with upcoming projects and finals.

WormholeFTP v1.1.1

Posted on: Fri May 23, 2008 01:40 AM

A quick update to WormholeFTP was released earlier this morning. I fixed a bug in the right-click Locations menu that wouldn't save the location you click as default. If you click a location in that menu now, that location will be marked as default in the XML file as though you'd gone into settings and checked the "Default Location?" radio button.

Automatic update should catch the new version and prompt you to download it. Look for it to bother you again when I release 1.1.2 in the next day or two.

WormholeFTP v1.1.0

Posted on: Tue May 20, 2008 03:05 AM

WormholeFTP v1.1.0 is now officially out, so go download it and enjoy! Here's the ChangeLog for this release:

        - Added update check to automatically notify users of future updates
        - Added ability to set up multiple upload locations
        - Changed upload routine to accommodate servers using Passive FTP
        - Changed the formatting of the XML file to store multiple upload locations

The first two items are the most exciting and relevant to the user. The update check will make it easy to notify users of the releases of new versions of the program, and the ability to create multiple upload locations will make this program much more attractive to people who need to be able to quickly upload files to different servers.

There's a couple more features I want to get in, but for now I'm very happy with where this program has gone. It's certainly saved me time, and I hope it saves you time, too! If you have any questions or comments, the forums are located at http://wormholeftp.com/forum/.

WormholeFTP Development - One the Road to v1.1

Posted on: Mon May 12, 2008 08:17 AM

I spent a big part of Friday and yesterday updating WormholeFTP, and here's the result:

Do you see it? That's right! WormholeFTP version 1.1 will allow you to configure and save multiple upload locations! Whats more, you can set one of the connections as the default location, enabling you to open WormholeFTP and start uploading. You will also be able to set up one of the upload locations you created as default through the right-click menu on the main window:

It's a lot easier than having to go into the Settings page each time you want to change to a different preset location.

I have just a bit more work to do before I can roll this into a new installer and send it out. Check back later this week for the launch of the newest version of WormholeFTP!

Puttin' on the Blinders

Posted on: Thu May 01, 2008 08:52 AM

I've discovered recently that I get a lot more work done when I listen to music through headphones. Just having the music playing out loud isn't enough; for whatever reason, I'm able to focus better when it's pumped directly into my ears. Go figure.

Work on WormholeFTP will continue tomorrow or Friday. Bugs keep coming in via friends on MSN, so the list of fixes keep growing. Right now, I need to fix a file size bug that crashes the program when files over 100MB are uploaded, and figure out how to handle Passive FTP connections. On top of that, I'm reworking the UI to allow for multiple upload locations to be configured and accessed.

This will be the weekend for advertising, too. The support framework is up, the EXE is in a stable, working condition, the price is right...Download.com and the SH/SC thread on SomethingAwful will be my primary targets for spreading the word and gaining widespread adoption!

Also Iron Man on Friday...that is all.

P.S. Yahtzee's updates on Wednesdays have me salivating like one of Pavlov's dogs

WormholeFTP - Freeware

Posted on: Wed Apr 23, 2008 04:00 PM

Just a quick update before I head off to bed. WormholeFTP is now FREE! The whole "pay per download" just wasn't working out quite as well as I'd hoped (read: no one was buying it), so I offered it up for download. I also threw up a donate link so that users can express their gratitude by sending me money!

Development WILL continue; I'm already working on some awesome new features that will make it into the next couple of releases.

There you have it, folks: if the price kept you away, then you no longer have a reason to not use WormholeFTP! So go out there and upload files smarter, not harder!

Enough Delays! WormholeFTP has launched!

Posted on: Wed Apr 09, 2008 04:12 PM

WormholeFTP v.1.0.0, now available for purchase and immediate download!

WormholeFTP

Click above to find out more about this amazing program!

So there you have it folks. After innumerable taunts and delays, I've decided to release my newest creation out into the wild. I'll be marketing this heavily over the next couple of weeks, so for now I'll have to rely on word-of-mouth to bring people in. If you've purchased the program and are satisfied with it, be sure to send your friends over and have them buy a copy too; if they're not convinced, tell them it'll help keep food on a starving college student's table.

I want to make it quite clear that this program will cost you money. Personally, I think the convenience it brings to file uploads is worth WAY more than the $8.00 price tag, but what do I know, I'm just a 20-year-old with too much time on his hands ; )

In any case, I could ramble on and on about how innovative WormholeFTP is and how much it'll change your life, but I'm sure the accompanying website will more than speak for itself. So go on! Check it out! Be amazed! And most of all...tell your friends!

P.S. This'll probably become the development blog, and I should stylize it accordingly. Do you guys think it's time for a new skin?

EDIT: Jonas has written a great review of the program. Read it for some first-hand experience with WormholeFTP.

Nobody said there'd be writing!

Posted on: Sun Mar 30, 2008 04:33 PM

WormholeFTP is inching ever closer to a release date. The programming was finished weeks ago, leaving me with a TON of writing to do. In the last three days, I've populated an entire site and four subforums with information about what WormholeFTP is, what it looks like, and how to buy it, as well as establishing ground rules for user interaction on the support forum. I consider myself a decent writer, so I'm not at all worried about the quality of my writing; it's just the fact that I have to write anything that makes the work plod along at a leisurely pace.

The last piece of text to complete is the Read Me file that will accompany the program. I've fleshed out everything except the Thanks To section, so it's about 98% complete. The remaining 2% can be finished by tomorrow if I sit down and focus on completing it.

The release date is so close I can almost taste it! The Read Me file and a couple small adjustments to WormholeFTP are all that I need to complete before I can put everything together and finally open shop. Once I go live, I'll try and drum up some customers by posting on a couple forums I frequent, submitting an article on Digg, and relying on word-of-mouth to keep business coming in. If you guys have any ideas on how I could bring in some customers, I'd be eager to hear them!

Release is imminent. Here's hoping everything comes together without a hitch!

Introducing WormholeFTP (Pre-Release Edition)

Posted on: Fri Mar 28, 2008 04:59 PM

I feel bad for not posting in two weeks, especially after leaving you with a cliffhanger. Without further delay, I'm ready to reveal my newest project, WormholeFTP!

What is WormholeFTP? It's a desktop application I made that automates a lot of the work involved in uploading a file to a webserver and then linking to it. All the user has to do to get the process started is to drag some files over the main window; the program then kicks into action, uploading the files to the server and generating a link to each file that you can then pass along to friends, include in HTML or a forum post, etc...

I'm going to be selling this program online for $8 USD a copy. Right now I have all purchases running through PayPal, so you are free to use a valid credit card or your own PayPal account to make the payment.

More information about my newest program, including some screenshots of the very snazzy UI (thanks, Mr_Cyberpunk! Get a hold of me so I can properly link you), can be seen at http://wormholeftp.com. Come on over and check it out!

P.S. Look for the official launch of the program sometime in the next couple days!
